Conceived
by Hal Roach in 1921 as “Roach’s Rascals”,
his first film was released in 1922 and the name
“Our Gang” stuck. Pathe’ was the
distributor of Hal Roach’s first 66 episodes
of Our Gang comedies. |
Hal
Roach later changed distributors from Pathe' to
MGM in 1927. A total of 22 higher-budget silent
episodes were produced in the ensuing two years. |
By
1929, the talking era brought major changes to the
Hal Roach Studios during the years prior to his retirement
from the series in 1938. |
Hal
Roach sold Our Gang to MGM in 1938. The episodes became
more sophisticated, but they were certainly just as
entertaining. |
